Root Canal Treatment

A root canal is a very painful condition that occurs when the tissue inside or under a tooth becomes infected and inflamed. In the past, badly diseased teeth often had to be extracted – these days, they often can be saved through root canal treatment. A root canal treatment is a dental procedure that is used to repair teeth that are badly decayed or infected. To treat a root canal and relieve the pain, the dentist needs to deaden the nerve with an anaesthetic and remove the tissue. You may need to take an antibiotic before the procedure to treat the infection.

Some people are apprehensive about having root canal treatments as they do have a reputation for being painful. But for most people, the procedure is no more painful than having a filling done. It can take a few hours after which the mouth will be numb from the anaesthetic for a few hours, but the pain will be gone since the infection has been treated.

How telehealth doctors’ service works at National Telemedicine Doctors

Step-1

Click on the link “BOOK AN APPOINTMENT ONLINE” at the top of any page on this website and follow the prompts.

Step-2

If you require a prescription, enter details of your preferred pharmacy for receipt of your prescription (if one is issued). If you do not have a preferred pharmacy, the doctor will email your prescription to an accredited pharmacy near you and you will be notified.

Step-3

Choose a practitioner and an appointment time that suits you. If it is a telehealth phone consultation, your doctor will call you at the appointment time on the telephone number that is registered with us as your contact phone number. Your doctor will call you as close to that time as possible, depending on the doctor’s availability. If it is a video consultation, we will provide you with instructions on how to join the video call. Should you miss the phone/video call for any reason, you will need to call us back immediately to proceed with the consultation or to arrange another consultation.

Using National Telemedicine Doctor’s telehealth platform, you can now consult an Australian Medical Board-certified doctor/GP/health practitioner in the comfort of our own home or office. Of course a face-to-face consultation with your regular health practitioner is the ideal consultation, however a consultation with National Telemedicine Doctors is an effective and convenient alternative, when a face-to-face consultation is not possible. During your consultation your National Telemedicine Doctor/ health practitioner will advise you if an in-person visit to a health practitioner is required.

Do I need a referral for a Specialist/Allied Health Practitioner?

Any General Practitioner at National Telemedicine Doctors can write a referral for you if you need a referral to a specialist/allied Health practitioner. You may need a referral to see a registered specialist or health practitioner – if you take services of a specialist/allied Health practitioner without a referral, Medicare will not cover any of your costs.
